QAUUG Australian users group for Unix and Open Systems
Queensland Chapter

Introduction

Welcome to the home page of the Australian UNIX Users' Group (AUUG), Queensland Chapter. AUUG is a national organisation with the aim of promoting knowledge and understanding of Open Systems including but not restricted to the UNIX system, networking, graphics, user interfaces and programming and development environments, and related standards.

QAUUG is the Queensland Chapter of AUUG. The primary focus of QAUUG is to promote Open Systems in Queensland and to act as an industry body to bring "like-minded" people together.

What does QAUUG Offer?

QAUUG runs monthly meetings which include a presentation covering a subject of general interest to the UNIX community. The presentations are varied and cover areas such as industry developments, research news, and new technology.

The meetings also provide an opportunity for members of the industry to catch up and keep in touch with each other on a regular basis. The meetings are quite informal, providing a great environment for people to discuss issues, swap stories or gain advice from the other members of the chapter. Refreshments are provided free of charge.

Currently the monthly meetings are on hold. Volunteer organisers or speaker please email qauug-exec@auug.org.au.

The chapter also runs a Summer Technical Conference in the early months of each year. The conference is usually a one day event with speakers covering a wide range of topics. Restrictions are placed on speakers to ensure that the presentations are of a technical nature. The QAUUG 2001 Conference will be held on the 3rd of May at the DPI auditorium (80 Ann Street, Brisbane).

Membership also offers several direct benefits including discount registration for the chapter Summer Technical Conference and the national Winter Conference (one of the largest events on the industry calendar), discounts and special offers on technical books, and much more.

AUUG members also receive AUUGN, the AUUG technical newsletter. AUUGN is published every two months and includes papers and information of general interest to members. It also contains details of local chapter activities and is how AUUG members stay up-to-date with AUUG events.

For more information on the benefits available you should consult the AUUG homepage and the list of benefits provided.

Where are the Chapter Meetings Held?

The monthly meetings are held:
Last Tuesday of every month, starting at 7:00pm
(except December and the month in which the Summer Conference is run)
The regular venue for the meetings is:
The Inn On The Park, 507 Coronation Drive, Toowong.
The meetings are currently on hold, at least until after the summer conference.

How Can I Join?

The easiest way to join AUUG or to learn more about the Queensland Chapter is to come along to one of the monthly meetings. You are invited to attend even if you are not a member. Come along and meet other people from the industry in which you work. You may even see a few familiar faces.

Once you decide you want to become a member of AUUG, the simplest way is through the AUUG homepage. Membership to AUUG is of course a tax deduction for anyone in the industry.
