SYDNEY, Australia -- 25 August 2004 -- AUUG, the organisation for UNIX and Open Source professionals, today announced that representatives from the three major political parties will address the conference.
"Open Standards, Open Source and Linux are now hot topics in the public sector", said David Purdue AUUG Inc. President. "We are delighted to see this and to encourage productive debate and positive change."
Two years ago AUUG called on the Government sector to accelerate the adoption of Open Source software. ( http://classic.auug.org.au/publications/press/callToAuGov2002.html) There has been enormous progress made over the last two years and the debate has broadened to address Open Standards as well as Open Source. However, it is still early days and the process of creating a level playing field is ongoing.

The conference, now in its third decade, is a key resource and meeting place for users, developers and vendors wanting to make the most of their investments in Unix, Linux and Open Source Systems.
The 3 day conference programme is preceded by a 3 day tutorial programme. There is a focus on security topics, but many other areas of interest are covered: Open Source databases, kernel hacking, Java and Wireless networks, to name a few. Apple Computer will be sponsoring a FREE tutorial - "Building Flexible and Secure Internet Services Using Mac OS X".
Although focused on providing strong technical content, the conference also addresses business topics and provides excellent opportunities for attendees to meet and build friendships via the conference reception and dinner.

Tutorials will be conducted prior to the conference, at the same venue, from 29 - 31 August 2004.
Both AUUG members and non-members can attend with discounts for AUUG members, members of affiliated organizations and students. Registration for the conference is $865 for AUUG members and $1,035 for non-members. There is a special discounted student rate of just $150. Tutorials are $350 per half day for AUUG members and $550 for non-members. (Please note that lower "Early Bird" rates applied only up to 6 August 2004).
